Onondaga County voters should not expect many choices in 2023 election: When Onondaga County residents go to the polls in a few weeks, voters will find they don’t have much of a choice in this year’s local elections. In fact, more elections are uncontested for top races – with just a single candidate on the ballot – than perhaps any time in the past 60 years. The 17-member Onondaga County Legislature will have only four contested seats on the ballot, the fewest since the legislature was established in 1962.
Stop sign stolen at Central NY corner causes two cars to crash, police say: Two cars crashed in Oswego after someone stole a stop sign at the corner of West Schuyler Street and Liberty Street in Oswego. One vehicle rolled over on its side, injuring people, police said. Police are asking anyone with video or information to help with finding who stole the sign.
DeWitt police looking for man after vandalism of flags at Jewish Community Center: Police are looking for a man who they say damaged Israeli flags in front of the Jewish Community Center in DeWitt. The man was captured on video Tuesday kicking down small flags placed near the sidewalk at the center. Law enforcement in New York State and other areas have stepped up security and outreach to Jewish institutions following the deadly attacks last weekend by the terrorist group Hamas in Israel.
National Grid predicts winter heating bills will be less costly than last year’s: National Grid says Upstate New York households should expect to pay 18% less this winter than a year ago for natural gas heating. The average residential bill for November through March is forecasted to total $639, or about $143 less than last winter, on average. Last year’s bills were the highest in more than a decade.
