Electrical grid update will temporarily close street, convert a one-way into a two-way – MLive.com

KALAMAZOO, MI — Drivers will experience a road closure in downtown Kalamazoo this fall as Consumers Energy expands its underground electrical network in the area.
The street and sidewalk of Park Street between Kalamazoo Avenue and Willard Street will close from Oct. 9 through Nov. 24, a Consumers Energy news release said.
To accommodate for the closure, a portion of Park Street between North and Willard streets will be converted to two-way traffic while construction is underway. The conversion is temporary, to help with accessibility.
Consumers is spending $3 million on its electrical grid during the project, the release said. Since 2019, Consumers Energy has spent $17.5 million into Kalamazoo’s downtown electrical system.
The work will help prepare the electrical system to for business growth downtown, including the planned $300 million arena.
